Changing life, changing program
March 2020

Our early spring 2020 the program here at Poplar included serving up to 180 homeless meals a week, Friday Night Shelter, and continuing to support our partners, First love Foundation Food Bank, AA and Employment Plus.

Covid-19 has changed all that. Meetings in our Hall were put on hold, and praise God the homeless have been housed and other hostels have stepped up and provided day time meals.

So our focus has turned to providing:

  • Pop-up foodbank and signposting from our Hall

  • Delivering food and support to those we know in isolation

  • Working with residents at two sheltered housing complexes with food and offering general support

  • Working with donors to distribute 40 hot meals a week

  • We continue to provide video linked worship on Sundays

  • Pastoral Support via telephone and video link

  • Linking up with the Salvation Army UK central response.

  • Continuing to provide SA Incident support to the emergancy services.

  • Our Youth Team are Supporting families with activities.

  • Offering video pastoral support to young people

  • Parent and children education support

  • Also supporting new and expecting mothers.

Up Date March 2021

Over the course of 6 months we have continued to support up to 300 people a week with our Foodbank, food collections and deliveries.

We have been supporting Poplar residents, families, Salvation Army homless hostels, and three sheltered housing complexes.

Many of the street homeless have been housed, but they still face challenges and health issues. We have not stopped, they know where to come for care, and in the last six months others have taken their place on the street, so the work to support them goes on.

January 2022
Life has changed quite considerably in the last 12 months. We are all learning to live and work around Covid, or at least with covid around us.
In February we hope to move into a more face to face program, once again opening up our Centre Cafe, re-establish all the AA Groups and invite Employument Plus back to carry on their work.
So this will possibly be the last update to this page.
