As you can see we live and work in the shadow of Canary Wharf in the poor borough of Tower Hamlets.

Crisp Street Market is our near neighbour and we have been serving this community since 1865, and on this site from 1872

Yes we are proud to be the oldest Salvation Army in the world, but even more so, to be serving Poplar in the 21st Century.

Today we meet on Sundays for lively up to date worship, and have a Community Cafe, & Youth Centre.

We work closly with AA and Employment Plus and share the values of Core Recovery Church

Everything we do, teach and practice  is based on these values

We serve breakfasts for the homeless three mornings a week , two evening meals and Sunday Lunch after Church. Our youth centre offers two youth clubs, after school study groups, DofE training and family support. Parent Toddler Group Thursdays.

The Welcome.jpg

Our building is in use 6 days a week including Sundays. We partner with Employment Plus, and three AA Groups providing care and support to the whole community.

The Salvation Army at Poplar is a very open community welcoming people from all backgrounds, from all nations, people of faith or none. We are easy going and just love new people joining us for every activity.

We have this song by our door and on the side of our building. A song by Stuart Townsend which we feel gives a great list of who we welcome here.

Our Officers

Vic and Shawn moved to Poplar in July 2022 and are excited to meet people from the local community and lead our congregation to be a beacon of light to all in Poplar. Both Vic and Shawn have worked for The Salvation Army for over 14 years and were ordained in 2019. Our passions are to make connections in our local area and to invite people to experience the freedom that is found in Christ. We love a good walk and have completed numerous long distance challenges! We look forward to meeting you.
